The Centre’s Olivier Bellefleur and Michael Keeling presented on public health ethics and surveillance at the Public Health Infrastructure Steering Committee of the Pan-Canadian Public Health Network on January 30, 2018.

In this presentation we focused on:

  • What is public health (PH) surveillance?
  • What is PH ethics?
  • PH ethics: frameworks
  • PH ethics and surveillance: what ethical issues arise when we apply ethical thinking to PH surveillance policies / programs / systems

This introduction set the stage for work with a case study on the ethics of surveillance in the context of the work around the Blueprint for a Federated System for Public Health Surveillance in Canada.
